Amazon Prime Video wanted to make a big pop-culture splash to promote the upcoming fourth season of the hit superhero satire The Boys. So they partnered with TIME on a bold idea where the magazine named the show’s antagonist, Homelander, “Superhero of the Year.”

TIME called on me to pen a profile of Homelander as part of the campaign, which featured quotes written by the show’s writers in the voice of the character. The article ran on the TIME website in addition to appearing on the front cover of the print magazine.
